Dutch Clouds
<p>Dirk Valkenburg liked to paint game still lifes and portraits of the Amsterdam elite. Around 1800, he spent a few years in Suriname and painted scenes of Dutch plantation colonies there. Willem de Rooij exhibited thirty works by Valkenburg at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. I was there and asked around.</p>
