Moonstorm
<p>MOONSTORM was a lesbian-feminist magazine published by the Lesbian Alliance of St. Louis, Missouri, USA, from 1973 to 1980. The magazine was published through the Alliance’s imprint Tiamat Press, and its themed issues covered topics like food justice, violence, gay and lesbian bars, and collectivity. In a 1974 issue, the editors shared their goals: </p> <p>“…our main reason for putting out the magazine is to have a means for lesbians to communicate with each other, a means for them to share their knowledge, experiences, and feelings … We all want to encourage women to write … We know there are enormous differences of opinions among the lesbian community; we would like to hear and explore them, for they are a catalyst to discussion and growth.”</p> <p>This font is a sister font to WOMEN’S CAR REPAIR COLLECTIVE, which took inspiration from a flyer for the Lesbian Alliance’s auto-repair shop. The letterforms in this font are based on those found in MOONSTORM’s Spring 1977 issue. Gaps in the alphabet were filled by emulating existing forms as needed. This font was commissioned by Source Type and designed by Nat Pyper, Laurenz Brunner, Selina Bernet, and Dominik Bissem. It is the seventh font in a Queer Year of Love Letters.</p>
